28 Apr DNA Expert: Genealogy Testing Carries Privacy Risks
According to San Francisco defense lawyer Bicka Barlow, those considering getting their DNA tested should recognize that they are potentially exposing themselves to privacy risks.
Barlow likened the possible theft of DNA information to the harvesting of personal information through Facebook and cited the Golden State Killer case which involved the identification and arrest of a suspect using a partial DNA match.
Barlow further reasoned that DNA evidence “is not fool proof” and that new technology may actually increase the chance of misidentification by DNA.
