20 Apr Data Firm Leaks Personal Information of 48 Million Users from Various Social Sites
Reports have recently revealed that cybersecurity expert Chris Vickery of UpGuard had found a public but unlisted Amazon S3 storage bucket containing the data of 48 million users scraped from various social media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Zillow.
The data had been gathered by a little-known company in Washington called Localblox which collects data from publicly accessible sources. According to Vickery, he found a file 1.2 TB in size which had profiles of individuals who did not consent to the data collection.
Vickery says that he had already been in contact with the company’s chief technology officer Ashfaq Rahman last February who addressed the issue in a matter of hours.
