Data Company Urges Users to Wipe Data, not Just Format

In a recent study, data migration company Stellar Data Recovery found the presence of sensitive data on gadgets such as mobile phones and discarded hard drives being sold on second-hand marketplaces.

The company attributed this to the unfamiliarity of a majority of Indians to proper data sanitation methods. Stellar said that they were able to recover data from the drives just by using a readily available data recovery software.

Stellar advised users to use regulatory compliance software to destroy the data, rather than just physically destroying the gadget.
