CVS May Have Revealed HIV Status of 4000 Customers

A few days after the Aetna incident, pharmacy giant CVS may have also committed the same mistake of revealing the HIV status of around 4000 customers in their mailing campaign.

CVS admitted that the pharmacy benefit information which was mailed to the members of the Ohio AIDS Drug Assistance Program made the HIV status of the recipient visible to anyone who handled the mail.

A CVS rep however, said that the code that references HIV does not pertain to the health status of the recipient, but rather the name of the program.
