28 Mar Cook County Files Lawsuit Against Facebook
Last Friday, the Cook County of Illinois filed a lawsuit which argues that Facebook, Cambridge Analytica, and the SCL Group, its corporate parent, had violated Illinois laws against fraud.
Cook County’s legal team also called Facebook the “largest data mining operation in existence” and accused the social network of encouraging mass data collection by providing companies with all the tools that can influence and manipulate user behavior.
It is said that Cook County is the first ever public entity to sue Facebook along with its partner, Cambridge Analytica. The country is being represented by Edelson PC, a Chicago law firm which had previously gone against Facebook for another privacy-related case in 2015.
