Companies Starting to Favor Biometrics Over Passwords

According to a recent study by Spiceworks, 62% of businesses are currently using biometric authentication, and this is expected to go up to 90% 2020.

The IT professional network added that fingerprint scanning is presently the most common type of biometric authentication, with 57% of organizations already using it. Only 14% use facial recognition, but companies like Microsoft and Facebook are actively trying to use it in lieu of passwords.

In a recent interview, Microsoft’s Alex Simons calls passwords a “weak link” which costs companies millions every year in help desk calls.
