CIA’s “CouchPotato” Can Secretly Capture Video Streams Remotely

Earlier this week, the latest release from WikiLeaks have mentioned a tool developed by the CIA for intercepting and recording video streams over a network or the Internet. Dubbed “CouchPotato”, the software can also take snapshots or screenshots and save them in JPEG format.

Couch Potato uses a modified version of FFmpeg to record H.264 videos on networks using RSTP protocol. Only the URL of the video stream is needed to intercept the video data, and it can also be run within a restricted network.

Experts say that the tool may have been developed with the intention of snooping on surveillance camera streams.
