Chinese Drone Maker Rolls Out Better Privacy Features

After being dropped by the US Military over cyber security concerns, Chinese manufacturer DJI introduces a feature called “local data mode” that enhances privacy for its apps.

The mode restricts internet traffic to and from DJI flight apps when enabled. Brendan Schulman, the company’s VP for Policy and Legal Affairs says that they released the feature for their enterprise customers, and other public or private users who have stricter data security requirements.

The company adds that the feature was not a response to the Army’s actions, and instead they were just addressing client needs which the Army memo had incidentally reinforced.
