China Dodges Spying Accusations Against African Union

French newspaper Le Monde recently investigated rumors that China had been spying on the African Union using  computers in the new building which it had built as a gesture of cordial partnership to the coalition.

Le Monde reported that the building had been turned over already fully equipped with computers. However, two flaws which looked like backdoors had been identified, and it is said that this could have given Chinese engineers access to internal exchanges and productions of the organization.

Kuang Weilin, China’s ambassador to the AU, called the claims “absurd” and questioned the report’s intention. However, the revelation prompted the AU to purchase its own servers and employ encryption for communications.
