13 Mar Cash App Paytm Suspiciously Asks for Root Permissions on user Device
It was reported this week that payment app Paytm had begun asking users for root permission on their devices. However, the company was not able to provide sufficient justification when asked why their app needed such permissions, and only said that the app needed root permission to gather data on the device and its OS.
An app with root access on Android will be able to obtain secure data and tweak almost all settings on the device. The suspicious move by Paytm was discovered by a French security researcher who goes by the name Elliot Alderson on Twitter. Alderson and Paytm VP Deepak Abbott argued over the issue on Twitter, where Alderson was finally able to compel the company to address the security issue.
