Canadian Pleads Guilty in Yahoo 2014 Hack Case

A 22-year old Canadian has pleaded guilty to charges brought by the US Department of Justice on Yahoo’s 2014 data breach case.

However, it is said that the hacker, Karim Baratov, had the least significant role in the scheme. The three other suspects who were charged, FSB agents Igor Anatolyevich Sushchin and Dmitry Aleksandrovich Dokuchaev, and hacker Alexsey Alexseyevich Belan, are still at large.

The FBI said that Belan was the one who carried out the hacking, most likely by spear-phishing a Yahoo employee. He then passed the stolen data to the FSB agents who are known for breaching political targets.
