21 Jul Businessman Jailed for Exposing Corruption of Chinese Judges
Chinese property developer Wu Zhengge was recently handed a 4-year jail sentence for violating the privacy of several judges. The businessman reportedly hired a private eye to take evidence of the judges’ illicit activities such as gambling and extramarital affairs.
In addition to the jail sentence, Wu will also have to pay 30,000 yuan (US$4,465) for “illegally obtaining a citizen’s personal information.
It is said that the case had been hugely controversial as it highlighted the difficulties faced by citizen journalists who wish to expose corruption by local officials in the spirit of the nationwide anti-corruption drive launched by President Xi Jinping.
