Authentication Choices Influenced by Age, Location, Says IBM

A recent report by IBM called the Future of Identity revealed that a user’s choice of authentication is heavily influenced by factors such as age, location and value of services involved.

In a survey consisting of 3977 adult subjects from around the world, IBM established that the choice to implement a new security feature will ultimately come down to the user, which is why it is critical for the security industry to understand concerns and preferences related to emergent types of authentication.

Respondents have said that security is a top priority when it comes to financial services. However, users become more willing to exchange security for privacy or convenience.

IBM also warned that since more consumers prefer to authenticate via social networking, a breach of the third-party website can easily create a domino effect with other services being compromised.
