24 Feb Australia’s Consumer Cop to Probe Facebook Over Privacy Concerns
Earlier this week, Australia’s consumer cop Rod Sims says that Facebook and Google are keeping a trove of personal information about users which could cause widespread concern if made public.
Under the orders of the Federal Government, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission will be conducting a broad inquiry on the tech giants’ misuse of market power, collection of personal data, and their impact on the quality and choice of news.
Sims added that antitrust agencies around the world are observing and and providing input into ACCC’s inquiry, and he had already spoken to the head of two European competition regulators who are widely regarded as being the toughest on big tech.
