31 Jan Australian Military Says Strava Did Not Breach Security
Last Tuesday, the Australian Military clarified that fitness app company Strava did not breach security despite publishing an online “heat map” that revealed that location of military personnel around the world.
While Australian Defense Industry Minister Christopher Pyne revealed that the Defense Department is making a report for the government on the issue, they were aware of the risks personal electronic devices and apps pose, and the Strava incident did not constitute a security breach.
The matter was first publicized by an international security student named Nathan Ruser who tweeted that Strava’s public heat map identified US bases in conflict zones. The company or any security agency has not contacted Ruser since.
