05 Jun Apple’s New Phone-to-Phone AR Expected to Increase Privacy
Apple is set to launch this week a phone-to-phone augmented reality (AR) tool that will allow iPhone users to immerse in a shared experience via their individual devices. The tool is also expected to increase user privacy by limiting the personal data that gets sent back to Apple’s servers.
Apple’s two-player system is said to taking an approach different from that of Google’s, which requires scans of the player’s environment to be stored in Google’s servers.
According to a source familiar with Google’s AR efforts, a phone-to-phone approach may eventually run into technical limitations, especially if it will be supporting more than two players. However, the details of Apple’s new system has not yet been revealed so there is no way of knowing at present what its capabilities are.
