05 Jan Android Malware Mimics Uber App, Steals Login Credentials
Symantec researchers recently discovered an Android malware which shows the user a fake version of the Uber app in order to steal usernames and passwords.
Said to be a variant of the Android trojan FakeApp, the malware prompts the user to enter his username and password, which gets sent back to the attacker’s remote server.
The malware does not come from Google’s Play Store, but rather from third-party app stores. Even though it isn’t being widely distributed yet, Uber urged users to download apps only from the official Android marketplace.
