02 Sep 40 Percent of Indians with Smartphones Share Their Data with the World
Newspaper ‘The Indian Express’ had reported that Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi revealed that almost 40% of the country’s smartphone users knowingly and unknowingly share their data to the world.
Mehrishi disclosed this information before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs when he was questioned on the matter of privacy threats that may arise on the government’s plan to link Aadhaar to a number of other services.
Mehrishi said that data sharing, particularly of fingerprints and biometrics, by mobile companies have become a nuisance and a privacy concern. He also said that there is a risk of data theft when using popular apps that may be sharing the user’s data without their knowledge.
