04 Jul 18-year old UK Student Arrested on Cyberattack Suspicions
An 18-year-old student from northwestern England has been arrested on charges of cyber assault that affected a number of multinational companies.
Jack Chappell has been allegedly responsible for supplying software that floods websites with data, causing it to crash. He has also been accused of maintaining a help-desk for perpetrators, and attacking the websites of the National Crime Agency, Amazon, Netflix, Virgin Media, BT, BBC, O2Vodafone, EE, and T-Mobile
West Midlands Police’s cyber crime unit worked with the Israeli Police, Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre, and the FBI to conduct the investigation.
In addition, Chappell is also facing accusations of helping hackers on a cyberattack on NatWest in 2015. An American citizen was charged together with him.
